A wonderful and thoughtful birthday gift from my wonderful partner - he knows how much I love a craft project - he also knows we will now be foraging for colour everywhere we go!
So happy to save these gorgeous Lemon Myrtle leaves from going in the green bin. Collected them in the biggest pot I could find in the house.
Water for the dye from our rainwater tank - apparently it is better than tap water for colourfastness - I’m learning
The house smelled AMAAAAAZING while these simmered away releasing their colour into the water.
Post-steeping the leaves go back on the garden, hopefully the earthworms like a steamed Lemon Myrtle snack.
Some beautiful linen and cotton fabrics from the wonderful Rozelle Collectors Market - perfect to experiment on - although they are so beautiful - I hope the colours look Ok.
Step 1 - Scouring with soda ash
The beautiful deep green / brown Lemon Myrtle dye liquid.
